Cat with extra toes(polydactyly). These extra toes make their paws look gigantic, rather like they are wearing mittens, hence the nicknames “mitten cat” and “mitten foot cat.” Another nickname is “thumb cats,” because some polydactyl cats have separated toe clusters which make them appear to have a thumb on their paw. Polydactyls typically have one or two extra toes on their front paws. Although a polydactyl cat can have up to seven extra toes on either the front or hind paws, it’s more common for the extra toes to be on the front paws only. It’s rare for a polydactyl cat to have extra toes on their hind paws only, and rarer still to have extra toes on all four paws.

Both Sofie and Oscar have extra toes! Sofie even has little nubbins on her back feet.

What Does Your Kitchen Say About You?

Erik Klein Wolterink has spent a lot of time researching, photographing, and editing images of kitchens.

Surprisingly, the Dutch photographer, engineer, and quasi-cartographer claims he’s not even a fan of the room.

“I can’t cook, for example,” Wolterink said. “And I’m not really into kitchens. I’m interested in the way we live, our daily environment, what surrounds us, the everyday stuff we normally don’t see or pay attention to.”

Wolterink became passionate about photography while attending a photography festival in Holland in 2001. (“June 6, 2001,” Wolterink recalled of the day that would change his life.) He went to art school and eventually quit his job and moved to Amsterdam, where he started to work full time as a photographer after his wife told him to “do what I wanted with my life or I wouldn’t be happy.”

Buddha Park

Buddha Park, also known as Spirit City (Xieng Khuan), is a sculpture park located 25 km southeast of Vientiane, a small city that sits along the Mekong River in Laos. The park was started in 1958 by Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat who was a priest-shaman. The park displays over 200 Buddhist and Hindu statues of deities, along with other beautifully carved strange figures. The main attraction is the giant reclining Buddha resting on the grass (first photo).
